This post is going to be a bit more on the cheery side! Yes, yes, the quarantine continues but at some point we’re going to have to try and go back to some form of normalcy. And you know what is just around the corner?
Mother’s Day!!
I know this year everyone is scrambling to see what they can do and how to celebrate. Well let me make that a little easier for you with some simple but fun and loving ways to bring the cheer and show your appreciation for the women in your life.
There are going to be two kinds of Mother’s day this year as there are most years. However, no one can be blamed for nonattendance this time around. So let’s take a look.
*Style 1: Mother’s Day At Home
If you are quarantining with your loved one consider yourself lucky. Unfortunately many won’t be able to be physically near their mom this year so the ones that are should really try and make it special.
1. A Few Extra Zzzzz’s Go A Long Way
The first thing you should definitely do is let your mother/wife sleep in. Yes, I’m assuming that whoever is with the mother of the “household” is most likely their spouse.
Anyway, this sounds simple but trust me, you will be loveeeeeed for it. Allowing an extra half hour or hour of rest is just what this stressful quarantine calls for. Let them sleep.
2. The Beautiful Bed Spread
Then you need to follow up with a beautifully setup breakfast in bed. It never hurts to put a little effort. Make it pretty. Us ladies love an aesthetically pleasing setup <3
Now, if you have kiddos around, the tradition of allowing them help make the breakfast is all very sweet and kind. Mothers love that.
But! As adults, good food is also super appreciated. So on the side of the beautiful mess of breakfast they concoct add a couple high end snacks that you already know are favorites. Maybe a few tea biscuits, a biscotti, and let’s not skimp on the coffee here please.
Dunkin Donuts beans are fine for everyday but on a special holiday, why not step outside your box a bit and go for a local brand or perhaps an espresso. She’s going to be delighted and I’m sure the small business trying to stay afloat right now would very much appreciate it as well.
3. Life’s About Indulging, Bring On The Brunch!
Next, after breakfast and getting up, playing with the kids a bit and turning on the tv, it’s going to be time for brunch. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a meal time but a little spread out on the kitchen counter or table would do the trick. Just something everyone can go over and pick from when they want. Sure she may have just eaten a few hours ago, but trust me, no one is counting calories today and indulging a bit is definitely fun.
In addition to brunch foods like bagels, muffins, pastries, fruit salad, etc. add some fun brunch drinks! Mimosas and Bellinis are a wonderful way to celebrate any occasion! If you know how to make bloody Marys then you can make a pitcher of that too. Whatever is to your wife’s liking. It just adds a fun brunch aspect to keep the mood light and happy.
4. Time For The DIY’s
Lastly, as the festivities are under way, it’s time to add the next part, the gifts. Now if you can’t order anything in time, not a problem at all. Everything leading up to this part is already fantastic and trust me, she’s having a blast! Food, drinks, family who wouldn’t!
But to put the cherry on top, this is the time to have your kiddos bring their DIY gifts. This always pulls at the heart strings and is the icing on top of the perfect day.
*Style 2: The Social Distancing Mother’s Day
The second type of mother’s day happening this year will be one ending up on zoom. I’m sure we all expected this and it’s the most common amongst adults. It is the most used platform for everyone’s working needs and as we can see from social media, it’s the most used platforms for birthdays as well.
So of course, we’re going to be hosting a zoom Mother’s day if need be. But before we jump on a video call we need to make sure to get all our ducks in a row.
1. Get The Card
If you are able to get a card, find one your mother would thoroughly enjoy and get it in the mail about 3-4 days before. This is only if you can. Obviously we all should be practicing social distancing at the moment but if you’re making a run for groceries anyway see if there is maybe a card available too.
2. The Right Quarantine Delivery Gift
Next you’re going to want to think about gifts because this needs to get in the mail as well. If you are doing something DIY with your kids to send to your mom/their grandma then that should accompany the card and be sent 3-4 days before.
If you are purchasing something online, that is going to take even longer to get to their address so I would make that purchase now. Honestly, with the delay in deliveries, it will still probably show up a few days after but that’s okay. She’ll understand :).
Also, you’re going to want to be careful with what you purchase at the moment. I only say this because things are getting delayed and it’s a little harder to track certain items or lost items and get in touch with customer service and so on. So I would save any higher priced gifs for once we can all interact in person again.
3. Please Accept This Invite For A Zoom Call
Now you’re ready for your zoom lunch! Whatever items you needed to get are in the mail so that pressure is gone and you can enjoy yourself over video chat with your family. Make sure your favorite foods are out and definitely bring the wine. I have yet to see a zoom celebration without it.
*Summary
It doesn’t really matter which option you choose as long as the intention and the energy is there. Let your loved one know how much they mean to you, make the best of it and have fun.
Happy Mother’s Day 2020 to all the amazing mother’s out there working, homeschooling, and taking care of the family.
